Kansas City Haunted House Round Up

Kansas City has a usual amount of Haunted Houses. Having lived in five other cities I have yet to encounter the same kind of fascination Kansas City has with haunted houses. It might not be the worst thing to be obsessed about. They can be fun, and entertaining. The scariest part of the haunted houses to me are the people who are now the “actors”. I just don’t get it. I probably never will understand how they do what they do, but I understand earning a buck. They certainly provide a lot of entertainment. I have listed them for a quick review below.

The Beast -

Apparently the largest haunted house in Kansas City, The Beast, provides an over an hour of fun and distraction. Tickets may be purchased online at the The Beast’s website. There are discounts for purchasing Edge of Hell tickets additionally. Tickets are $20.00.

Edge of Hell -

Owned by the same company as The Beast. The Edge of Hell is in the same area and easily accessed off the highway. It is a little smaller than The Beast but it is not that noticable. It is still $20.00, but there is a discount if purchased with The Beast reservations. Tickets available online.

Fear -

Fear does not appear to have an accessible website. Their contact information is below. They are in the same location as The Beast and Edge of Hell.

The haunted houses in Kansas City are something to attend once if you are visiting or if you live in town. They provide about an hour of fun. Take a group of friends and make a night of it downtown. Laugh at yourselves and enjoy the season.

Tonight you should head over to Lawrence and catch Pete Yorn. We will not hold it against him that the recorded with Scarlett Johhansson, actually the record is not too bad. It should be a great show it is at The Granada, 20 bucks at the door.

Worst Movie Of 2009 – Wolverine?

Last night I rented Wolverine. I will say that I have enjoyed the previous X Men movies and was excited to be entertained by the latest X Men movie. I am a fan of Wolverine and thought it would be an fun movie. I was wrong. It is probably the worst move I have seen this year. It had horrible plot twists that were not necessary. They obviously just tried to work backwards and fill in the story. They could have done more with the other characters instead they decided to throw as many characters into the movie as possible.

I thought the actions scenes looked incredibly fake, and why have Wolverine run around naked for five minutes? I am going to make a list of worst movies of the year, but I will wait until I rent Transformers 2 this week to declare Wolverine as the worst this year. I would like to hear some other nominations or from the people that thought the movie was enjoyable.

MuteMath at the Beaumont Club at 8 pm. They just released a new album that is great. I think they have the teen market cornered though so I don’t know if I’ll check it out.

Bright Star Movie Review

I had some time for myself last night so I took myself to see the movie, Bright Star. I have read some positive reviews and was anxious to see the movie myself. The movie is written and directed by Jane Campion. She is most remembered for directing The Piano.

Bright Star is about John Keats the poet and his three year relationship with Fanny Brawne. I caught the movie on Thursday night at Glenwood Theater. Glenwood is apart of The Fine Arts Theaters in Kansas City. They are some of the best kept and maintained movie houses in the area. I settled in with six other people to watch Bright Star.

I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed the film. It is slow at times, with a total run time at 2 hours, but is one of the most visually stunning movies I have seen for a while. The story is not anything ground breaking, but the two leads and supporting cast seem to weave a new interpretation. I enjoyed it because I knew very little of John Keats, and although it does not weave his poetry enough in my opinion it does give a snapshot of his life. I enjoy learning about someone as well as their history in a movie. This movie is a period piece and is not fast moving. If you are in the mood for a love story that is lush and visually impressive this will be the one for you.

Highlights: Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish.

Fast Forwards: Slow moving at times.

I do not have plans for Halloween yet so I am taking inventory for the options. I heard a radio spot on 96.5 The Buzz yesterday. I don’t know if I will go but I really like Company Of Thieves.

There is a Halloween Party at the Power and Light District? Any Thoughts? Maybe I’ll check out Company of Thieves and then head to a house party? What is the Biggest Halloween Party in Kansas City?

Temper Trap Review

This has probably been the longest week of the year. I cannot believe it it not Friday. I think this grey and horrible weather has made it really slow this week. I wanted to share some new music that I am loving. Temper Trap was featured on the 500 Day of Summer Soundtrack. I have not been able to stop listening to their music since. The closest they are coming to Kansas City is Chicago, but they are worth a listen. Enjoy.
